Mind is indeed very difficult to control, so what holds the Key?
Practice and detachment.
Comprehending practice is not difficult, simply put it means doing something on a regular and consistent basis.
However detachment is something which i want to delve deep into.
Daily we go through experiences, some of which create deep impressions in our mind depending upon our prevailing prakriti or nature, these deep impressions consistently make us think about that experience and soaks our energy and disturbs us to the core and so attachment to me herein means being consistently attached to those deep impressions in our mind. Detachment basically means to detach yourself from those deep impressions; deep impressions will keep on happening but we should learn to be deattached to those.Now how to do this is quite important: It is possible through constant practice in meditation.
Whenever possible meditate, close your eyes and whatever thoughts which are trying to make a deep impact on you just let them go, let them go. It takes time but eventually will happen to a large extent. I have started regularly meditating sometime back and looking back I think I have made some improvements on mind control so far and I am pretty hopeful it will get better with regular consistent practice.
